Philip Angier

Philip Angier, 55, is founder of Angier Griffin, an independent social economy consultant. He was formerly Chief Executive of Traidcraft.

Philip began his career in international banking. Whilst at Grindlays Bank he served in the Chairman's office and held senior management posts in both the personal and corporate banking sectors. He undertook a market development assignment in the Middle East

After 10 years in the City of London, he made a vocational career move to become Finance and Resources Officer in the Diocese of Liverpool under Bishop David Sheppard. Philip's time in Liverpool encompassed the City regeneration which followed the Toxteth riots and the publication of the influential 'Faith in the City' report. Philip became a non-executive director of Traidcraft in 1986. He joined Traidcraft's staff as Finance Director in 1987, and becoming Managing Director in 1991 and latterly Chief Executive. During a decade at the head of Traidcraft Philip oversaw a major change-management programme and re-structuring of the organisation. He travelled in both Africa and Asia.

Traidcraft's achievements under Philip's leadership include an 80% increase in the real value of fair trade purchases from its producers, the launch of cafedirect, the first fair trade product in UK supermarkets, and a pioneering role in the development of social accounting. Philip left Traidcraft in 2001 to found Angier Griffin.

Angier Griffin has undertaken consultancy assignments for the regional development agency, ONE NorthEast and a range of social enterprises and voluntary sector organisations.

Philip is Moderator of Shared Interest Society Limited, Chair of Just Pensions , a director of UK Social Investment Forum, and of AnyBodyCan Limited. He is also chair of the Advisory Board of CapitaliSE.

Philip writes for Social Enterprise magazine and leads the Valuing the Difference project, based at the Sustainable Cities Research Institute, Northumbria University.

Philip and his wife, Elizabeth a teacher, live in Alnwick. They have two grown-up children (and two grandchildren) and are active members of their local Church. For recreation Philip gardens and is a occasional triathlete.
