Globalisation means that the rights and aspirations of the world's poor are inextricably linked to our values and practices in international business. To tackle the scourge of poverty we need policies that work.

At a macro level consumers and investors must together demand higher standards of corporate responsibility from the businesses we buy from and invest in. At the micro level we must support economic activity which maximises sustainable livelihoods for the poor.

'If our interconnected world is to work for everyone the international rules must be fair' - Globalisation White Paper December 2000

Philip Angier has chaired Just Pensions, a DFID funded project providing guidance to the UK Pensions industry on international development issues.
